Exploring the World of Digital Arts and Animations
After selecting my final year project which was creating a video game for pc using Unity, I had to choose a genre for my game, after a week of research I decided to develop an Action Horror game. The main theme of the game was to survive the herds of zombies and reach the rendezvous point as soon as possible before the time runs out. The game gave the option to either use a lethal or subtle approach however both of the outcomes had their pros and cons.
Right after prototyping the game which included coding in c# and level designing, the next step was to have fully rigged and animated Zombies and NPC for the beta version of the game. However, having the right characters for the game was a huge challenge for me. As time was of the essence I had to quickly acquire the required game assets and the character designs at my disposal for the game development progression. Initially, I outsourced some of the character designs with the animations to paid freelancers however once the project was completed and the final report was completed, I decided to work on designing and animating game characters and assets as outsourcing the character designs was quite costly.

MY FIRST STEP TOWARDS GRAPHICS DESIGNING:
The first step I did to enter the world of arts was to watch different digital art and graphics designing tutorials on youtube, at first I was discouraged a lot as I had no designing skills or background prior to it. However, I keep moving forward and grew some interest in the arts. After months of watching some random videos regarding digital arts, it was now time to put all that knowledge and information into action. Krita was the first software I used to start working on my art and character designs.
The main reason for me to work on it over Photoshop was because of its simplified tools and dashboard designs if you know what I mean. I remember I start off with a simple mouse and with a Bezier Curve, Basic Shapes, and Transformation tool with a Fill Bucket in Krita to create my first simple 2D Character Design. The Art was very simple in terms of its overall design as you can imagine however it was revolutionary for me as it boosted a lot of confidence which lead me towards a more advanced level later on in the future.
A WORD OF ADVICE:
- Initially watch some random videos on digital art and character designs on youtube, it will give you some sort of an idea with basic guides to start your venture in graphics design.
- You can work with only a mouse during the early phase of the learning process however as you will develop some skills and knacks in the future therefore it will be best to, later on, shift from a mouse to any graphic tablet.
- You will make a lot of mistakes and start to think that art designing is not meant for you, this will be the point from where your true test for graphic designing will start therefore have a strong positive mindset and keep moving forward.
